Reduction of Unsafe Abortion in Rural Bangladesh

The Safe Abortion Action Fund (SAAF) is dedicated to promoting reproductive health services and preventing unsafe abortions, especially among disadvantaged and deprived rural women worldwide. Unsafe abortion is a critical health hazard, particularly in developing and poor countries.

The Government of the UK and the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) have recognized this issue and played a significant role in advocacy efforts to prevent unsafe abortions. They have ensured services for obstetric and gynecological complications arising from such cases. To support this mission, the “Safe Abortion Action Fund (SAAF)” was established in February 2006.

The Department for International Development (DFID) of the UK Government, along with social communities and NGOs, has entrusted IPPF with the responsibility of implementing programs to prevent unsafe abortions globally.

This project is being implemented in Bangladesh through the joint collaboration of the Human Development Foundation Bangladesh (HDF), the Bangladesh Women’s Health Coalition (BWHC), and the Bangladesh Association for Prevention of Septic Abortion (BAPSA).
